School Goals
Our school goals will focus on two areas in 2009-2010--improving students' reading & writing skills and all aspects of Healthy Living.

Goal 1:
We will continue to focus on improving all students' skills in the areas of Reading and Writing using "quality assessment" and other exemplary instructional strategies--with an emphasis on supporting average students who are underachieving and "at risk" students.
By 2012:
-90% of Gr. 3 students will meet/exceed expectations in Reading using the Early Literacy Screener
-90% of Gr. 3-6 students will meet expectations using the Whole Class Reading Assessment
-90% of K-Gr. 3 students will meet/exceed expectations in Language Arts on the final report card
-95% of Gr. 4-6 students will achieve a letter grade of C or better in Language Arts on the final report card
-we will also identify and work toward new targets for PM Benchmarks and the new School-Wide Write
Our plan to achieve this goal includes:
-continuing to provide professional learning opportunities for teaching staff related to quality assessment practices and effective teaching strategies in the area of reading and writing (this will happen at monthly staff meetings, after-school optional activities and during "Classroom Support" time)
-continuing with "ANF" (a District funded program: Achieving a Necessary Future) organization in K-Gr. 3 classes (15-18 students) and introduce reduced class sizes in Intermediate grades (approx. 24 students, a school-based budget decision)
-introduce early learning initiatives (StrongStart Centre at our school- September 2009, P.A.L.S. Program for K-Gr. 1 families- date to be determined)
-continue the Camp Read Well home reading program and organizing special literacy events during the 2009-2010 school year (click here for photos of "SRE Reads with the Rockets" held in February 2009)
-introduce the use of consistent assessment tools (PM Benchmarks in Gr. 1-3, Whole Class Reading Assessment in Gr. 3-6, School-Wide Write in Gr. 3-6)
-purchasing new integrated Reading and Writing resources for Gr. 4-6
-using a generous donation from our PAC to add to new technology tools to SRE classrooms

Goal 2:
We will continue to work toward Ministry Designation as a "healthy school" by focusing on students' skill development in the areas outlined in the Healthy Living Performance Standard.
Our plan includes the following strategies:
-continuing to track students participation in Daily Physical Activity (DPA) and reporting this to parents (requirement met/not met)
-continuing to schedule daily "DrEAM" time (DRop Everything And Move) during the fall and winter term (parents/pre-schoolers invited to join us)
-continuing to use the "ActionSchoolsBC" resource
-participating, once again, in a Healthy Schools Network action research project related to "Healthy Living"
-continuing to focus on improving students' behaviour choices related to the school's revised Code of Conduct
-hosting a "Health & Wellness Fair" in the spring of 2009 (we will do another in the 2009/2010 year, too)
-continuing with the "play first, eat after" schedule for our lunch break
-examining students "connectedness" with our school and initiating supports to assist students
